How I Taught My Son To Read By Age 3 

I’m a homeschool mom of five, and I’ve successfully taught four of my children to read by age three. 

here’s the exact formula i used to teach my kids to read early:

1. Teach letter sounds first, not letter names or the alphabet song.

A, B, C… It’s a great song, but it won’t teach your child how to read. Instead, teach them the sounds letters make—like “a” in apple or “b” in ball. 

2. Focus on blending the sounds of three-letter words.

Once your child knows a few letter sounds, teach them how to combine (or “blend”) those sounds into words. For example, when they see “cat,” they’ll sound out “c-a-t” to read the word. 

3. Read children’s books with simple sentences.

Once your child starts recognizing and blending words, introduce them to real books with short, simple sentences.
